Some of you may already be aware of how delicious these apple pies from the Pioneer Woman are. Years ago, I saw this recipe on the Pioneer Woman website. I am addicted from the first bite. If you haven’t tried this dish before, now is the time to do so! You will not be sorry…. Mountain Dew was called for in the original recipe. I tested it with Mountain Dew and it tastes just as good as Sierra Mist, 7-UP, or Sprite. I am using a coffee substitute for my cardiac purpose (SVT).
*ingredients:
1 large apple {I used Fuji- any apple will do, tart is best}
1 box of Crescent Pillsbury dough
1/2 cup of butter
2/3 cup of sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup or 6 ounces 7-Up or equivalent {half of a can}
*How to Make Apple Muffins for the Pioneer Woman:
Dumplings:
Preheat oven 350 degrees F. Grease an 8″ x 8″ baking pan.
Cutting each apple into 8-10 wedges.
Cutting apple peel to slices as well and set apart.
Separate crescent dough to triangles.
Roll every apple slice to a crescent-roll dough, starting at the wide end.
Pinch it to close also covering apple and place it in the baking dish. {This is easiest if you dry the apple slice first and then roll the dough around it.}
Melting the butter in a small saucepan and add the sugar and cinnamon. Heat and whisk to blend.
The mix will combine also thicken. When it becomes thick, remove from heat and add vanilla.
Pour the cinnamon mixture over the apple muffins. Pour soda over dumplings. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes in a preheated oven, or until golden brown!
Enjoy!
